Appendicitis-Belize

Appendicitis

Your appendix is a small, tube-like organ attached to the large intestine. A blockage causes appendicitis, leading to increased pressure, problems with blood flow and inflammation. When this happens, your appendix must be removed immediately . If the blockage is not treated, the appendix can burst and spread infection into the abdomen, a condition called peritonitis.

Bowel Obstruction

Treatment is recommended based on the nature and extent of your bowel obstruction. This may caused by inflammatory process of the colon, adhesions due to previous surgeries, cancer etc. Some blockages can be resolved through initial procedures, including the use of tubes to remove air and liquid from the obstruction. A complete blockage may require surgery. In some cases, it may be necessary to remove areas of your digestive tract damaged by the obstruction and connect the two healthy ends of your intestine.

Gallstones

Most gallstones do not require treatment because there are rarely any symptoms. People who experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, yellowing of the eyes and a fever with chills likely will need surgery to remove their gallbladder. Depending on your condition and preference we would propose as a first option, Laparoscopy, a minimally invasive procedure, to remove the gallbladder vs open surgery-

Intestinal Fistula

An intestinal fistula is an abnormal connection between the tissue of your intestine and surrounding organs. It may be necessary to map the complex connections within an intestinal fistula and plan surgical procedures to address your condition and any potential complication, such as an infection. A fistula that does not heal on its own may require surgery to remove it along with some of the surrounding intestinal tissue

Pancreatitis:

Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas caused when digestive enzymes begin to digest the pancreas itself. A variety of procedures can be performed to treat your pancreatitis. Approach will depend on the underlying cause of your pancreatitis and if medical treatment has been unsuccessful. Part of the pancreas may be removed or the calcium deposits (stones) that are blocking digestive fluids. In some cases, it may be necessary to remove the entire pancreas, the gallbladder or the opening of the bile ducts, depending on your condition. The goal will be to prevent a recurrence and preserve as much of your organs as possible.

Stomach Ulcers

While medication frequently resolves or improves ulcers, you may need emergency surgery if you develop a bleeding or perforated ulcer or if the outlet from your stomach is obstructed. Most ulcers occur in the first layer of the inner lining of the stomach or small intestine. Mild ulcers can often be treated with medication. However, more serious cases can cause a perforation that goes all the way through the stomach or duodenum. This should be considered a medical emergency that requires urgent treatment. A perforated ulcer can cause severe blood loss and permanent stomach damage if untreated. Typically the hole is sewed close to repair it. You also may need surgery if there is blockage in the passageway from the stomach to the intestines.

Spleen

The spleen helps your body fight infection, but it can be removed if it is diseased or injured When injured or diseased, it may be necessary to remove the spleen. It may be necessary to administer a vaccination regimen post splenectomy

Hernia Surgery

Hernias occur when a portion of the abdomen’s inner wall protrudes outward. Surgery consists in pushing the intestine, fat or other organ back into position behind abdomen’s muscle wall using either stitches or mesh to reinforce the abdomen’s wall.

Colorectal and Anal Canal

Colon and rectal disorders comprise a wide range of conditions, including cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, abscesses and ulcerative colitis, anal fistula, haemorrhoids and anal canal cancer. Treatment in many cases will depend on the type and extent of your condition and your overall health. The focus in many colorectal surgeries is to spare as much of your organs as possible by removing your tumour and possibly surrounding healthy tissue. In severe cases, it may be necessary to remove all or part of the affected area and form alternative ways for your body to channel waste.

Diabetic Foot

A diabetic foot is any pathology that results directly from peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and/or sensory neuropathy affecting the feet in diabetes mellitus; it is a long-term (or "chronic") complication of diabetes mellitus. The management of diabetic foot ulcers requires offloading the wound,  daily saline or similar dressings to provide a moist wound environment,  débridement when necessary, antibiotic therapy with or without surgical intervention if osteomyelitis or soft tissue infection is present (including possible amputation), optimal control of blood glucose, and evaluation and correction of peripheral arterial insufficiency.
